I don't display work that has teacher marking

When I conference with kids, I use an idea that I got from one of these teacher boards. As I read their writing I make a check mark in the margin next to a line where I have seen a mistake. One check the student looks for one thing to correct, two checks and the student looks for two mistakes and so on. I love this strategy because the student becomes responsible for finding his or her own errors. When the whole paper has been corrected, the student writes a final copy and that is the one that goes on display.
