One of my favorite books

...is Pink and Say by Patricia Polacco. It is a true story (I believe there is an explanation at the end of the book about the relationship to the author...) The setting is the Civil War and the characters in the book forge a wonderful friendship, despite their racial differences. I absolutely cannot read it to a class without crying. Very moving.
