Choosing chaperone
By mlg

Clip to ScrapBook
I have had this dilemma before and the way that I resolved it was to figure out what the personalities of my students would require in order to have the field trip be a safe and enjoyable experience for all. I would think
by this time you have met or spoken to all of the possible candidates and have a feel about how they deal with their own children. Usually I choose the parent(s) of the most "out-there" kiddoes to come with us and explain right upfront that their responsibilities are to keep all children in their group with them at all times and that NO ONE, ADULT OR CHILD,is to deviate from outlined
instructions of the teacher or staff at the trip locale. I have seldom had a problem as a result of this policy. One rule that I am very strict about is that I don't allow either the children or chaperones to go either to the snackbar/restaurant (bag lunches and drinks are brought from home) or any gift shop on the premises. Also, bathroom trips are made by the whole group at the same time.
