Venting Back with Ruth!
By Eydie

Clip to ScrapBook
It is very hard to teach in a classroom of little ones who are only waiting to get out to go home and play their e-boxes. I know thats's what they do when they get home because I hear all about this game and that. no homework
is turned in by the majority of my kids and some turn it in signed but they tell me they really did't do it but Mom signed anyway!

Guided reading groups would work wonderfully under ideal situations but the group I have this year I have to watch every second. If I turn them loose at an activity center (yes, I've modeled, we've practiced together they should know what to do alone)
they tear up the materials that I spent so much time and money to create. They take pages out of the books and would rather see if they can get the batteries out of the head sets when they are supposed to listen to the story on tape. I even had a child pull the mouse off the cord on my computer...." I just wanted to see if I could do it" was what he told me. Parent Support?

I try to do all the hands on learning and activities but these children destroy the manipulatives or play in a way they are not supposed to.

Everyday I leave my two Wonderful little ones at they day care to TRY to teach.

I once said if I got to the point that I was not enjoying teaching I would quit.........well this very well be my last year. Over 15 yers I have worked at three different schools in two different parishes. So, in this area it seems to be the same where ever I go.

I have a masters degree and a National Board Certification. I have put so much into my teaching that I hate to quit because I love to teach. I know I'm not burnt out, because I get excited about my next lesson or unit. Then I get dissappointed that the kids aren't into it. But fact is, I feel like a glorified babysitter and not a teacher anymore.

There........I feel better! Glad there's only three more "teaching"days until Christmas!
