So Familiar

If there's one thing I don't like about first grade, it has to be the bathroom situation (and that's about the only one!). Your story sounds exactly like something that happened to one of the teachers in my team last year. There are always one or two students in my room whom I let go to the bathroom immediately, regardless of whether I have already sent a student. This past year, I had one student who had such immediate needs to go to the bathroom that we set up a signal. She would signal to me that she had to go, and then she would just get up and leave. I feel so badly for these little guys. I remember that I was in the same situation when I was their age, and how stressed I was because of it, so I try to be really lenient with my kids.
