Independent Seatwork By Tossednchaos

Hello....I just began a long term subbing position (permanent if I want it for the rest of the year) and the last teacher (who left because she couldn't handle the severe misbehavior of the children) left nothing! I came| in not knowing where any of the students were in any lessons, missing teacher books, no student workbooks.....a real disaster. I'm very overwhelmed trying to get everything organized and the students back on track. One of my biggest problems is during our reading time. While I am instructing one reading group, the other needs to have independent seat work to do. Since they have no workbooks | | and I can only have so many copies of so many worksheets ran off, I'm running out of things to have them do during this time (it can be up to an hour depending on how the reading group is grasping it and how they are behaving). I have been having them do different things with their spelling words (definitions, sentences, stories, filling the blank, etc.) and having math worksheets and stories with questions ran off. I can't keep up with all the copying that requires though (we have to put in requests 48 hours in advance). I would like to have the work be meaningful but at this point would settle for busy work...out of ideas already! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
