I've had great experiences with this
By Brooke

Clip to ScrapBook
Last year was my greatest year for creating a parent-classroom connection related to this book. Every year I send home a family tree so we can identify where families come from and to promote discussion at home. Last year
I asked one of my students if her parent would mind coming in and talking about becoming an American Citizen. Her mom and dad came in with all the preparation questions for the test (in Chinese), and a variety of other momentos related to citizenship. They talked about the hardships of becoming Americans and why it is such a privilege to be an American. If you have a willing parent
who will share their experiences, it will be the lesson of a lifetime. Even if you don't, I love this story and the conversations the kids bring back to school from home just because you asked about their family tree.
