experts
By Jenny

Clip to ScrapBook
I tried having 'experts'. I choose a kid who is really good at something and they are the expert for that area. the kids go to this kid for help before they come to me. it has the great effect of letting the expert know that
they are doing well, and the other kids also ask fewer time wasting questions because they have to ask a peer first. Of course the 'expert' has to be rotated every day if the class is full of questions, otherwise they never get any work done. You can set reasonable boundaries around questions for the expert, like only ask them for simple questions, if you think the answer will be long
then go straight to the teacher. It works well for my class, and even lets the kids who are only great at PE (and not much else) get recognition for their strength as well. I can see though that if you have 20 kids asking detailed questions then it would really not work in your classroom. Good luck, I hope you sort this out so you can get back to being the teacher rather than an answer machine!
