Clip to ScrapBook
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that teaches 4th and has this issue. I thought it was just my group of kids. I call them very "dependent". I'll go over an assignment, model it, ask for any questions, etc... Then the minute I let them work independently they're coming up to me or raising their hand asking for help. I realized it was mostly because they didn't want to "think" - they just wanted me to give them the answers. I finally had to reprimand them for not asking questions earlier. Then I tell them to reread the directions and try a few before asking me. It's settled it down a lot. We've talked about being independent learners and how they'll remember it better if they'll try to find the answers themselves. They're starting to catch on.
