class meetings
By Amy L

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Mandy,
Sounds like a trying start to the year...hang in there. Maybe you could start with one topic a day to discuss, focusing on social skills that you find problematic. It could involve role playing, reading/discussing
a short article, etc. For a short period of the meeting time, you could have issues the kids raise. I've seen teachers use a box for kids to write their conflicts/issues, etc., then pull from the box during the meeting. The time is then focused on solving the issue as a class. Usually, class meetings have guidelines that focus on how to talk, when to talk, etc. I've done it with
first graders, and we needed about 20 minutes to let everyone have a short time to share. But, we didn't have the social skill lesson part. We did that at another time of the day.

Good luck!
