Use real data
By Oldie

Clip to ScrapBook
Use data collected from diagnostic tests or progress monitoring. The best is data that will render a grade equivalency. Plot the whole class's scores on one vertical bar graph, and instead of using student names along the
bottom axis, just number the students to preserve confidentiality. This visual is always very understandable to parents and they can see that this isn't your opinion or that you like or dislike their student. I've done this for years, and the parents always seem to appreciate the objectivity of the graphs. I don't know what grade or subject you are, but for reading the Slosson Oral
Reading Survey, the STAR test by Rennaisance learning, or any other placement testing works very well. Benchmarks might be another route to take. Be prepared with real activities that you can suggest for parents to do at home, as well as a list of materials that they can purchase from local stores or online vendors that will target specific weaknesses.
