Clip to ScrapBook
I teach 5th grade in an elementary setting. I'm not a big fan on retesting. I will give a make-up test or quiz if the majority of the class did badly after I reteach the material. I will also allow make-up tests and quizzes for certain circumstances...provided I talk to the parents. For example, if the child was dealing with a death of a family member, not feeling too well the day of the test, etc. Those are seldom. I offer many grades per week including homework, classwork, etc., so I feel that one bad test will not bring down their grades too much. I also feel that many students just want to redo their work/tests/quizzes to get a better grade, and that's not right...it should be for a learning purpose!
