Junie B. Jones books are really funny. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books are good, too! I agree a blend of picture books and chapter books are what needs to be read to first graders. I usually begin with picture books. We progress to a combo of the two and I usually end up with mostly chapter books at the end of the year. I tell them that with adult books pictures go away and our imaginations take over when we read. I use this example when we do descriptive writing, too.We begin with pictures first then words, then words with pictures and finally just words to tell our stores. What progress the make on this level! No matter what you do, when they see you enjoy reading they want to model that. First grade is great!
