Pencils

My kids start out the year with fat pencils, and I let them move to skinny pencils when they want to. They always use skinny crayons, since that's what they bring from home. The kindergarten teachers at our school work a lot with the K kids on writing, so by the time they come to 1st grade, fine motor skills have been honed enough for me to let them use skinny pencils from the start if they want to use them.
