Cowboy/Rodeo Theme
By Virginia

Clip to ScrapBook
I have used "wanted posters" as part of my western theme for the past few years and they generated a great deal of positive feedback.

After you get a chance to meet your students, you could make a wanted poster for each
one. I take a photo of each student and glue it onto the poster. Under the poster I type "WANTED" and then I list positive attributes for each child.

For example... Johnny is wanted for his warm smile and kindness to his classmates. Johnny also listens carefully in class and completes his work neatly. This cowpoke is a real star!

I have a signature line at the bottom of the poster

marked "Sheriff" and I sign my name. The children love it and the posters are really a hit at Parent Orientation Night.

I have even gathered the class together and we brainstorm positive attributes together. This starts the year off on a very positive note and everyone feels an important member of our first grade community!

A while ago I purchased a cassette entitled "Riders In the Sky" - Harmony Ranch. It is a great children's tape with cowboy songs about the alphabet, Pecos Bill, Counting Coyotes, etc.

I hope this helps you -- have a rootin' tootin' school year
