I do one author a month- there is a booklet you can buy with posters for certain authors- each booklet has 6 or 7 authors (Can't remember the name of the book-) But I hang a poster and then get as many of that authors books as I can and put them in a tub under the poster. I intro the author at the beginning of the month and read their stories during read-alouds all month. We compare the stories, do art projects similar to the art in the books, and at the end of the month each student writes which book they like best and why.
