Clip to ScrapBook
My biggest success has been with our take home books. I make this a kind of big deal. I feel very secure with the take home books because I know they are on an appropriate level. They start out about five pages long, but
by the end of the year they are about twelve pages long. After their parents LISTEN to them read it, they are to sign the book itself. I stamp it and then the student gets to keep it. I have nearly 100% participation in this because it is so routine--every Wednesday we get a new one. I also have old readers in my room that students check out, but it is difficult to get participation
in this.

My question is: If they are just reading the take home book, is that enough? I'll continue to try different things with the retired readers, but it is so hard to get some parents to do that.
