classroom set up By Cathy-Dee

The nice thing about teaching is you don't have to do it all right at the beginning of the year. For the most part our schools do not even open until about a week before school starts so we usually have 2 to 3 days to get| everything done. It's amazing how fast you can actually get a room set up for the beginning of the year. The main things to think about.... - where your desk is going to be - how will you set up the kid's desks - in rows, in clusters - name tags for the kids desks - if you do not know their names until that day just have the tags on the desks and write their names when they | | arrive. - where are you going to store extra school supplies the kids bring - I use zip-lock bags and keep them in one box for the year.- storage bins - plastic tubs work great, they look nice and are stackable so you can put them in one corner and they do not take up a lot of room. - as far as displays go - an alphabet wall display (you can buy nice ones that run along the top or bottom of a chalk board) - number wall border (1 to 100) - colour word and number word charts - a welcome to school bulletin board - An autumn bulletin board - A calendar and weather chart - if you are starting with a theme you might want one bulletin board for that theme - for example I start with Nursery Rhymes and Rhymes so I have one display with nursery rhymes on it. - a word wall if you are going to use one. - a map name tags for lockers or coat racks
