It's so much fun setting up your first classroom. Things I really like....pocket charts and stands chart paper (and see if you can have someone modify the stand so that it has a piece of board behind the paper, makes | writing so much easier). listening center Several extra tables for work areas, writing centers, I use a lot of stacking folder stands and bins for the student's work which is all kept on one table near my desk. A tub of markers, a tub of crayons, some extra supplies like glue, erasers, pencils for those kids who either seem to eat their supplies or just don't bring anything to |
| school. An overhead projector - you can do so much with an overhead. As far as display materials go you should have an alphabet wall chart, I also like a few smaller ones for near the writing center, number chart to 100, weather chart, calendar, posters with colour words, number words, a few seasonal things - just worry about Fall and Winter for now. For the desks or tables - name tags AN ELECTRIC PENCIL SHARPENER - I use mine all the time, the kids do not have access as they still have the manual one we have in the classroom to use. But to quickly sharpen pencils for tests, seatwork, etc., it's nice to have that electric one. A 3-hole punch, long arm stapler are also nice to have in the classroom. A rolling cart with 2 or 3 shelves - I use mine mainly for science or math. I can put all the items, books, etc., I will be using for a particular unit in science and then everything is handy and easy to move around the room. Other nice things to get..... - a few other center things such as building sets, games, puzzles. Have fun with your first class!
