end of year party
By Cheryl

Clip to ScrapBook
I do not agree with the "All or Nothing" approach for the party for the kids. I agree that it seems like some positive changes are in order. I think that the "end of the year" special activity is one of the things that
kids tend to remember about their school year. Excluding children from this activity is certainly going to open up opportunity for them to make negative associations with "school" in general. This is not going to help them improve their behavior in the future. At our school, we have made the last day "special" activity something that is not tied into behavior consequences at all.
All children get to go to the student/staff baseball or volleyball game. As they watch and cheer, they can meander around and have friends sign their yearbooks. This is usually about 11/2 hours of their day. We try to make the last day a pleasant day for everybody, so that the kids go home happy!!!!! Why not try an all school picnic or some noncompetive games next year? Hope this helps.
