Space
By Terri

Clip to ScrapBook
Make an ABC space big book (ie: A is for astronaut.Start with a KWL chart on space, then you know what info. they already know. We do "Moon tickets" where the kids study the phases of the moon(one child per night, fill out
a "moon coupon" with the shape and drawing). As a class, we keep track of the overall changes on individual calendars.Make constellations with sticky stars, black const. paper. Freeze dried (camping food) is great to simulate space food. Great books include:fiction: Harold's trip to the Sky, Frank Asch's Mooncake, MoonGame, Happy Birthday Moon Non Fiction:The Wright Group's What is in
Space, Earth and Moon, and Exploring Space. Also Sun Up Sun Down by Gail Gibbons, There's No Place Like Space(with the Cat in the Hat), Joan Sweeney's Me and my Place In Space, Blast Off! by Maryann Dobeck. Papa Please Get the Moon for Me by Eric Carle. I want to be an Astronaut by Byron Barton. We also make U.F.O.s out of fruit (called unusual fruit originals). Use apples, oranges or pears (1 per child) The children use raisins, gumdrops, licorice and other candies stuck on with toothpicks to make crazy "aliens".I have more poems, songs etc. I can e-mail you next time.
