spelling tests By Cathy-Dee

I've developed my own tests based on a few series that I have.My lowest group this year is doing letter sounds, letter names, very basic sight words such as I, it, is, the, boy, girl, play, like. Their sentences would be something like. I like to play. The boy is big.My main group of students do phonetic 3 to 4 letter words. I start with B words, then C words, etc., when we do all the letters using only short vowels, then I move into more of the blends such as sh words, ch words, etc., If they are progressing I may do long vowel words too. The test this past week was rat run ran rip | | rug ramrub rid rag red rim rob Bonus Words: across floor asked
1. The little rat ran across the rag on the floor.
2. “Did you fix the rip on the rim of the red rug?” asked Rob. Then I have a really strong group of spellers, this was their test this week. Long A words with ay digraph today say play may spray way stay hay away tray bay lay Bonus Words: pile house please
1. Please stay away from the pile of hay when you play outside.
2. Did you say that you may stay over and play at my house today? Things to watch The word pile – same as our long a with the silent e words. Pile will most likely be on their next test as well. I mark each spelling word with one mark (a half mark if they reverse letters or get one letter wrong). I also give a mark for each word in the sentence (half marks for reversals or one wrong letter), one mark each as well for capitals, periods, quotation marks
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.
