stone soup
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
Michael,
I've done stone soup with groups from about 12 students to groups of over 50. I've never yet made the right amount of soup! But here's the basics of how we do it:
Each student brings a vegetable to add to
the pot.
On the day before the soup party each child prepares his/her veggie.
On the day of the party you place a stone in a pot of water (about 1 cup of water for each guest.)
Then add the veggies.
Throw in chicken or beef boullion or a packet of Lipton dry soup mix (the onion soup works well unless someone has brought an onion).
Let the stuff simmer for an hour or more
- until the veggies are cooked.
Near the end you can throw in a handful of noodles.
My students usually aren't crazy about the taste. Sometimes we waste more than I would like. But the experience is great and they love acting out the story.
