End of Year...
By Jana

Clip to ScrapBook
This is my first year in the bldg. i'm currently teaching in. We don't have testing in first grade, so we just finish up our last section in reading and fill in with 'neat' activities for about the last month. My team of
teachers have a lot of reading incentive programs in place for the last month + of school. One of the activities involves a reading calendar for the month tied in with a Clifford theme-- as they kids complete the activities (such as reading in bed, reading while sitting under a table, etc,) parents sign a 'bone' shape and kids send it back in. At the end of the month students with 80% participation
get to go to a special Clifford Party. We do another activity like this where students earn pieces to a sundae-- if they 'build' a complete sundae they get to go to a sundae party.

I heard a neat idea the other day to wind down the end of the year-- would be great for K/1. Have an alphabet countdown the last 26 days of school. For example day 26=A day-- do A activities and so on until you reach the last day of school which would be Z day. this would be an exciting way to review consonant and vowel sounds and have a little fun along the way!
