A Fair Bear Share
By Kate P.

Clip to ScrapBook
I used the book, A Fair Bear Share, by Stuart J. Murphy, when teaching place value to my first graders. It's a great story that focuses on regrouping. I had the kids in small groups, each assigned to be a bear, and we acted it out. I found the book in our public library, but I believe it is also available through Amazon.com.

Also, each of the children made ten beansticks (glue ten kidney beans to a fat craft stick) and we used that as a manipulative (along with individual beans).

Have fun!
