some ideas for centers

I use the centers for students during my guided reading..
I have a book nook...where they silent read a book of their choice from the library in my class.

A writing center..
where they write to a prompt from the big
book we read together...
An art center where they get to illustrate stories...
A word zone...where they use cut out letters to create words..and sentences...
A math zone...where they have the concept of the week..or weeks...
for example..I set up cups with different amounts of money...they fill out a sheet with letters to match the cups and then at the end they check the answer

sheet...
for greater than less than..I made number cards and they play war...its EXCELLENT...
for time...they set clocks they previously made with paper plates..to different times of the day and then write a sentence of what they do at that time...
addition and subtraction flash cards..and bingo...
we have a listening center were they can listen to a book on tape...
The cool thing is that I READ the book...I taped myself reading several books..it took some time to set up..but THEY LOVE it..
and I can use it over and over...
it makes it more personal to have the teacher reading to them then some stranger...
I have them make tapes too...when they master a book and then other students can hear them read...
thats a great ego booster for them...
