Stories with BME
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
You might begin by reading aloud several stories with a distinct beginning, middle and end such as Three Billy Goats Gruff...Use a graphic organizer, to write in these parts as you discuss the stories in sequence. Fold a
12 X 18" sheet of white construction paper lengthwise, then divide the top flap into three sections. Cut the front to the middle fold and label it B, M, E. The children draw a picture and write a sentence or two to illustrate these concepts under the flaps.
From there you might move into a story map format with icons to remind them of the elements of story, characters (pic of a
boy, girl and dog), setting-time and place (pic of a house and full moon), problem (broken stick), events B-green, M-yellow, resolution (stick patched up), and E-red. (If you'd like a copy for reference, I can fax or scan it...)
You might also try cutting and laminating a large green circle for Beginning, yellow triangle for Middle and red square (or stop sign) for End. The kids walk on the shapes retelling the story as they go... ;-D
