taking books home
By Gail

Clip to ScrapBook
I took a Guided Reading class this summer. The kids all took books home at night to read to their families. Each child has a book bag with their name on it. They love to read familiar text at home to show off their skill. If a child does not have their book bag with them when they come to school, they can't take a new book home. When they see the others bringing the books back and forth, they want to take part. A good tip is to tell the children (and parents) that the books should always stay in the school bags when they are not being read. Then everyone is happy.
I'm not familiar with this sight word drill you are using so I can't offer suggestions. Our vocabulary is always used in context.
