writing

Clip to ScrapBook
I have found that writing and art work hand in hand. Many kids like to draw pictures of their families. Have them draw a picture and then write about it. Stuff like "my mommy in nice" is great. That has worked pretty
well with the kids I have worked with. Something that also helped was having a list of common words. Each week we let each child pick a word that they thought they might want to write. Then we wrote all of those words on a big piece of paper and hung it in the room. We kept all of the pieces up throughout the semester. Sometimes we had the kids draw something about the word too. It
got them thinking, but they had to look around the room for the words. It was similar to looking in a dictionary. The kids liked it and it got them writing!
