In my writers workshop, I do a lot of modeling. I model different forms of writing...coloring, scribbling, random letters, beginning sounds, and book spelling. I "read" my scribbles to the class. I just want them to feel comfortable writing. No, we will not write this for the entire year, but for the beginning its appropriate. Ideas from writers workshop:
Writers write about
1. People
2. Things they see
3. Things they like
4. They they eat
5. Things they can do
etc.
Start with a picture to get ideas flowing.Good luck
