I am not sure if this book is still available but it was one of my chilhood favorites . .the illustrations are SO CUTE. It is called Maxamillian It is about a mouse who wants desperatly to become a bird. He soon finds out that he hates worms, hates sleeping under a bird and really hates the flying part - he RE-discovers that he LOVES the taste of cheese, LOVES to scamper in the field and think his own bed is just right. He agrees to visit the birds, but resolves himself to be the best mouse he can be because that is what he can do best! . . .it is kind of on the lines of Stelluna or Verdi . . .have fun
