Kdg Homework By Sandy

Every month we do a seasonal or thematic art project on 11" x 8 1/2" paper (paint, cut and paste, etc.). I mount these on the top half of a 12" x 18" sheet of construction paper. On the bottom half I paste a calendar for| the month with homework assignments on each school day. Some assignments are directly related to curriculum (circle all the I's and i's you see in today's headlines, write each letter in your name on a train car and put the train in order, walk around the house and look for things that are shaped like a circle) and some are just meant to give them a little special time with their parent | | (lie down on the lawn and watch the stars come out). Some are connected to interesting facts about that day in history (9/25: Debut of Mary Poppins - Can you say "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"?). They are expected to read or be read to everyday in addition to these activities. I laminate the homework calendars and send them home at the beginning of the month. The parents love them, so do the kids and the only thing I have to send home is the calendar and occasionally something to facillitate the assignment (a small baggie of play dough for National Play-Doh Day, a train cut out for their name train). I get some of my assignment ideas from the Totline web site.Hope this helps, Sandy
