Clip to ScrapBook
One of my favorite authors to start the year off with in K is Bill Martin Jr. We start with Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you see? The kids may be familiar with the story from pre-k. The repetitive text and bright pictures
make it easy for the kids to "read" the story, creating a feeling of success and accomplishment. I do many related activities, such as make a classbook based on the story called K, K, who so you see, where the kids draw pictures of each other following the format of the book. I also type uo the text and let the kids do their own illustrations for a take home copy of the book. I
get many notes from parents who tell me how proud their child was that they could read the story to them.

Other great books by this author are Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (an alphabet book), The Magic Pumpkin, Barn Dance, Fire Fire Said Mrs. McQuire, and Polar Bear Polar Bear What Do You Hear.
