Our curriculum uses little characteristics of each letter to help the kids remember the formation, i.e. "capital I is a tall stick with a little hat and little shoes" and "little i is a short stick with a dot." When I instruct on the formation of the letter, I say the phrase while demonstrating on the chalkboard and the children say it with me while writing in the air.
