positive approach By Gail

The positive approach suggestions are great and should be used whenever possible. If giving sugar is not an option (ie diabetes) try those mini stickers that come 1500 to the pack. I have a child in my class who sounds| just like yours. We don't start until next week but he was in our preschool program so he has a history and I will have an additional part time aide for him. Be sure that you calmly explain what's going on to your administration (espec. with hitting) and your SPED people. They should all be part of the solution, if there is one. A child who continues to hit others should not be allowed | | to remain in the classroom for long. The other child have a right to feel safe. You'll have other parents complaining before long. It can take a really long time for children to feel comfortable and stick with the program and you have to keep trying new things until you have a working solution. Sometimes, we can't fix things. I had a challenging student last year. We tried lots of different things and we did not iron out all the kinks by June. He's off to first grade and I hope he has grown up a bit and can handle this year with more success and less disciplinary action.
