Direct Instruction in Kindergarten
By D.B.

Clip to ScrapBook
I was in the exact same situation when I began my first year of teaching last September. Our kindergarteners started both programs at once. These programs worried me a bit that whole first semester, especially when the children looked and sounded like robots. But, after a year, I can say that they DO work for the students.

My advice is to make your other curriculum as varied, interesting and movement-filled as possible to balance out the bland, rote nature of the direct instruction programs. I hope you have full-day kindergarten. Our 1/2 schedule only leaves me about 40 minutes to actually teach my other curriculum.

If you ever need to sound off or ask any more questions, please feel free to email me.
