number poem
By Jodie

Clip to ScrapBook
I have seen this one used in many classrooms. One teacher even wrote each verse on a large cutout of its corresponding number, and another made a book using the verses to send home.

A straight line down is lots of fun
That
is how we make a 1

Around and back on a railroad track
2 2 2

Around the tree, around the tree
That is how we make a 3

Down and across and down some more
That is how we make a 4

Go down and around and then you stop
Finish the 5 with a line on top

(Alternate verse for 5: Short neck, tummy fat
Number 5 wears a hat)

Down to a loop
A 6 rolls a hoop

Across

the sky and down from heaven
That's the way we make a 7

Make an S but do not wait
Come back up and there's an 8

A hoop at the top and then a line
makes a very handsome 9

A one and zero makes a 10
And that is how our numbers end

Hope this helps!
