Snack is a good thing. They need to socialize a bit to help their development. Try to keep it brief and then send them out to recess if you can. They won't dawdle if they want to play out. Letter instruction is great for Kindergarten. There will be children who won't have command of the alphabet for a long time and some won't get any of the phonemic awareness without a strong letter program. Don't be too tough on the slower kids. They have a long row to hoe and some may later be diagnosed with learning disabilities. Let everyone feel successful.
