love kind!

Jen:
Everyone has their niche. I love Kind, but I taught 4th last year and had a blast. Kindergarteners need to be taught everything. Remember, they have been with mom and dad at home for four or five years now.
Going to a new, big place without parents is very hard for some kids, especially if they haven't been to preschool or daycare.
It is SO amazing to see the growth a kind. makes during a year. That's why I love it. They come in not knowing their letters, some can't write their name, they don't know how much paper towel to use! You have to teach everything. But they pick up on
it like you wouldn't believe. By The middle of Sept, your routine should be down pat, and everyone should be feeling comfortable in your class. Of course, there are always going to be a few exeptions, but these are a fun challenge.
When I saw these kids that couldn't even hold a pencil correctly or couldn't identify more than 3 letters at the beginning of the year, I thought, "no way can I do this." But I learned a ton, and when those same children start reading things to you towards the end of the year--really reading--nothing can beat that feeling.
