ESL
By Nancy

Clip to ScrapBook
Tracy, I just finished my first year of teaching 1st grade and I had 6 ESL children. I don't know any Spanish so it was a real challenge. I pretty much treated them like every other child in my classroom. But, during circle time I had my ESL kids teach my other kids spanish. We are learned to count to 30, the colors, the days of the weeks and the shapes.

I used lots of picture clues to help them understand the directions. Also, some of my children were bilingual, so they helped me out alot.

It's amazing how much they will pick up just through the daily immersion. Good Luck!
