Structured kindergarten By L.P.

I'm a new kindergarten teacher and the school I'll be working in expects a very structured kindergarten (it's all day). I did my student teaching in kindergarten and when I think about those little ones, I too am wondering if 5 year olds are really ready for this. Doesn't it cause more behavior problems? I'd like to hear opinions on this too.

I would prefer to ease into academics as the year progresses, like my cooperating teacher did, but I'm not sure I'll have that choice.
