patterns galore By jem

You could go on a patern safari around the school or the neighborhood. Find patterns in leaves, flowers, bees, cat fur and plants. Or in brick walls, sidewalk grids, rooftops. Take polaroid pictures and compile a book of patterns.Remember | that patterns can be circular, linear, squares, diagonal, etc.. So have students make "quilt" patterns from squares.. glue beans and pasta in a circular pattern around a paper plate... You can construct patterns ( by having them line uo) and THEN have the students guess what the pattern is. Socks.. no socks.. socks... or long hair... long hair... short hair. It is fun | | for them to try and figure out what attribute you are using. You can do this with objects from the room too. Choose a student to pick and form a pattern line and have the other students guess the pattern.
