patterns galore
By jem

Clip to ScrapBook
You could go on a patern safari around the school or the neighborhood. Find patterns in leaves, flowers, bees, cat fur and plants. Or in brick walls, sidewalk grids, rooftops. Take polaroid pictures and compile a book of patterns.

Remember
that patterns can be circular, linear, squares, diagonal, etc.. So have students make "quilt" patterns from squares.. glue beans and pasta in a circular pattern around a paper plate...

You can construct patterns ( by having them line uo) and THEN have the students guess what the pattern is. Socks.. no socks.. socks... or long hair... long hair... short hair. It is fun

for them to try and figure out what attribute you are using. You can do this with objects from the room too. Choose a student to pick and form a pattern line and have the other students guess the pattern.
