Here are some pre-writing activities for you to use with pre-k:

Write letters, shapes, etc.. in shaving cream on tables.

Write in sand trays filled with sand, cornmeal, salt.. Use fingers or sticks.

Children can write with their fingers in the air, on the carpet, on each other's backs, on their palms.

Fill ziploc bags with hair gel. Secure tightly (tape as well as zip)and trace letters, shapes, numbers, using fingers.

Make sandpaper letters for them to make rubbings of, trace with fingers.

Make letters using play-doh.

Use letter stamps, cookie cutters, sponges.

Form letters using their whole bodies on the carpet. Make some lying down, some standing up.
