Tapes
By Helen

Clip to ScrapBook
I have done this and used a glass of water and a spoon to make the dinging sound (turn the page), I also added a special personal message to my kiddos at the end and they loved it! (Something like, thank you for listening
so carefully to my story, remember Ms. ____- loves you and is proud of your good behavior!!!)
You can also collect old battery type cassette players that clip on your belt.(Beg your friends with teenagers who graduated to CD players or check the K-Mart or Big Lot Store for good prices) Let children select a wand or some kind of pointer from a reading center and go around the
room listening to you read the room to them(on tape)...they use the pointer to point to the things being read etc. this way you can read individually to several children at once and not disturb the rest of the class.
My first graders have especially loved this during morning times if they got to school early .
Children learn to listen, follow directions, and get the experience of being read to as they follow along with their eyes.
