I am 3 weeks away from the end of my year round extended day kinder year #5 and my top kids know 50 sight words and can use about 20 in their writing. I have our Open Court alphabet printed on a card with the 50 sight words
on the other side. They take their sound spelling cards and off they go using invented spelling, beginning, middle and ending sounds and then use their high frequency sight words. About 6 can do this independently. The middle six like to have me help them sound out words and need lots of help to find their sight words. My low 7 are still learning english so sight words are really hard

for them but they are getting beginning and ending sounds. I have them writing 3 part stories by drawing simple pictures and I write their dictation. Every year we get further with the ks and Open Court is the foundation and I get better using it. See ya
