My class is at nearly the same place. Most are using inventive spelling. A few will use the word wall on occasion but most are just getting a few of the consonants and maybe an obvious vowel. No one is writing in complete sentences with correct spelling. (One child is reading at first grade level and was when she came in Sept.) I think it's a pretty typical class.
