I have 6 students that speak Russian in my class, and they've come quite a long way this year... it's fortunate that there are so many language and social experiences in kindergarten anyway. But it was tough for a couple
of those students at first. Try to find a book (by Usborne, I think) called First Words in Russian- it has picture scenes from daily life and the Russian and English words for those things at the margins. Also, have your new student eventually teach the class to count to 10 in Russian. My class loves that and we also do it in Spanish and Armenian, thanks to two other ESL students. Kindergarteners
don't seem to care if their friends don't exactly speak English at first, as long as they can play together, and your new student should pick things up quickly from his/her peers. Have fun!
