New student
By Theresa

Clip to ScrapBook
I am in the same boat. I got a new student two days ago who doesn't know his own name and has never been in any school. Use lots of hand signals for simple tasks of sitting and standing. If there is no restroom in your classroom,
show your new student and the rest of your class a signal for bathroom.(Mine use the sign language r and shake it forward)If you have computers in your class let the child play early pre-k games such as matching colors or shapes on the computer. My new student loves the listening center- even though he may not understand any of it, he is obsorbing English and looking at pictures.
For your first day I would keep your normal routine, but teach the whole class other ways of communicating via simple sign language for sitting/standing/closing the door, etc...
You will be amazed at how good they will all be at it. Even your new one!
Good luck and be patient!
