centers

Clip to ScrapBook
We have 12 required centers: Math, Writing, ABC, Art, Dramatic Play, Sand/Water, Library, Listening, Science, Computer, and Manipulatives. I make all of my centers literacy-related. For instance, in the block center the students have a "Blocks Journal". After they build, then they write and draw about it. In the art center, the activity usually relates to the Shared Reading book and the children can also write about their art work. Even the Dramatic Play center can have a literacy focus. You can turn it into a Post Office, where they write and mail letters. It can be a restaurant, where one student can take orders as the others are reading from a menu. These are just a FEW of the many ways to incorporate literacy into all centers.
