Dear Linda,
Children learn when they play. For example, in the block area, math concepts of size, shape, and number are being experienced by the children. When they lean to balance blocks in a structure, children internalize
science and physics principals that in later years will seem like second nature to them, it they had the opportunity to play. Stimulate their minds and their play by adding elements, such as trucks and cars or a new mat with roads. Have an adult sit with the children to help direct building and direction of block play. In preschool, writing ususlly means illustrating. Often
we use "book starters" and make class books, such as "This is me in September" and the child draws themself. When the class is done (with the help of an adult), the book is laminated, covered and bound with rings or string. We make these books often in our room and they are among the children's favorite books.
